FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials say wildfires in Forsyth Township have been contained. 

Monday around 12:35 p.m. Forsyth Police responded to the report of a fire at the end of Marshall Drive near County Road EL. Officers discovered two locations several hundred feet apart that were on fire and were rapidly spreading. DNR firefighters also responded and were able to control the fire after it had burned about three acres.

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP--   A man whose truck got stuck on a Forsyth Township road was found in serious condition over the weekend. 

Sunday around 8 a.m. officers were called to Martin Lake Road, which isn’t plowed this time of year.

Investigation revealed the truck became stuck sometime during the night. That morning a friend discovered the man’s vehicle, followed footprints through snow in the woods, found him, and called 911.

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   Forsyth Township Police have arrested a fugitive wanted for home invasion.

Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. officers received information that Sean McNamara was in a Jeep by the Shoppette Party Store. McNamara was wanted on a felony charge of home invasion on a warrant issued last November. Township Police had asked for the public’s help in finding him, and had received several tips over the last several months.

McNamara is now lodged in the Marquette County Jail. Forsyth officers are thanking the public for its help in his apprehension.

GWINN, MI--    Forsyth Township Police have apprehended a man wanted for being a parole absconder.

Wednesday around 11:25 p.m. officers responded to the area of the Ace Hardware on a tip the suspect was in the vicinity and was on meth. Officers located the man—identified as 26-year-old Steven Baker of Gwinn—in a nearby laundromat. He tried to run out another door but officers caught and searched him. They found a loaded gun that was reported stolen in 2013 in his front pants pocket.

GWINN, MI--   A Gwinn man is jailed for sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 17.

Forsyth Township Police arrested Daniel Larson, 40, Wednesday for 1st degree criminal sexual conduct. The charge stems from an investigation into an assault that happened on January 29 at a residence on Crusader Street. Police say Larson was a guest in the victim’s home when the assault occurred.

Larson remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail. His bond will be set at his arraignment.

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   A snowmobile driver was injured in a Forsyth Township crash over the weekend.

Township Police say it happened Saturday around 2:15 p.m. on Trail #32. The driver was unable to navigate a sharp left turn on the icy trail. The snowmobile left the trail, dropped down into a ditch, and struck the other side of the ditch, ejecting the driver. The driver struck several small trees before landing.

They were transported by Forsyth Township Police and Fire personnel to an ambulance, then taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Forsyth Township Police Department has apprehended a Marquette man wanted by law enforcement for more than a year. 

Nickolas Birney, 37, was an absconder from circuit court probation and was wanted on a probation violation since November.

GWINN, MI--   The Forsyth Township Police Department has initiated a new Drug Abuse Resistance Education—or DARE—program in the Gwinn Area Community Schools.

DARE was taught in schools throughout Marquette County in the past, but over the last decade the program has disappeared. Last fall Sergeant Jesse Cadwell attended DARE training in Virginia and can now teach the curriculum.

GWINN, MI--    A Gwinn man faces three criminal sexual conduct charges, following an assault reported on January 4.

The Forsyth Township Police Department arrested Marquon Woods, 23, on Saturday. He’s charged with first-degree CSC (with a person under 13 years of age, defendant 17 years of age or older) and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct (with a person under 13).

Officers say the victim and Woods lived in the same household.

The Marquette City Police Department, Child Protective Services, and the Michigan State Police assisted in the case. 

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   Forsyth Township Police arresting a suspect on a misdemeanor warrant also discovered meth components at his residence. 

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team says the 36-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday at a home on East County Road 456. During the arrest UPSET detectives observed components associated with meth. A search warrant uncovered numerous chemicals used to make the drug.

The suspect allegedly admitted to making meth.
