County Road 550

ISHPEMING, MI--   The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal accident on County Road 550 has been arrested.

Austin Mitchell, 21, of Ishpeming was taken into custody Wednesday on a charge of operating while intoxicated-causing death.

Mitchell and his passenger—21-year-old Jacob Weslin of Marquette—were traveling on 550 in the early morning hours of March 25 when the vehicle left the road, hit a power pole, and rolled over. Weslin was killed.

No court dates are available at this time.

UPDATE, 3/26/18:  Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post say Austin Mitchell, 21, of Ishpeming was the driver in the incident. He was injured. Passenger Jacob Weslin, 21, of Marquette was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

MARQUETTE, MI--   One person is dead and another injured, following a single-vehicle crash on County Road 550 in Marquette County. 

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   Four people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident in Marquette County over the weekend. 

State Police from the Negaunee Post say it happened Saturday around 3:15 p.m. on County Road 550 near Beagle Club Road. Troopers say Kayla Matusinec, 21, attempted a U-turn in the road. Another vehicle, driven by Clyde Vadnais, 68, came around a curve right behind the first vehicle. Vadnais tried to avoid Matusinec, but hit her as she tried to complete the U-turn.

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were injured in a traffic accident in Powell Township Tuesday morning.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says around 9:55 a.m. an SUV driven by Joyce Moulds, 87, of Big Bay pulled out of a private driveway onto County Road 550. She drove into the path of a Ford wagon driven by Michael Berry, 62, of Big Bay. Though he tried to avoid Mould’s vehicle, Berry ended up hitting it.

Both were taken to UPHS-Marquette for non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. 

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI--   A motorcyclist escaped injury, following a crash in Powell Township.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Three Marquette teens have been taken into custody for holding a juvenile against his will and assaulting him. 

On Tuesday City Police arrested Ricky Constantino-Berry, 17, for unlawful imprisonment and felonious assault and Elijah McCoy, 18, for unlawful imprisonment and assault.

The incident allegedly took place at a residence on the 300 block of County Road 550. 

Both remain lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

UPDATE, 3/24/17:  The motorcycle driver has been identified as Kody Wayne Lenon, 23, of Marquette.

MARQUETTE TOWSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says a motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday.

Just after 2 p.m. deputies were called to County Road 550 just south of Little Presque Isle. It appears the driver was southbound when he lost control of the motorcycle and hit some trees.

Officials say the crash likely happened earlier in the day.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information on who may have damaged three telephone poles in Marquette Township.

Officials say the incident happened the morning of December 22 on County Road 550, just south of Harlow Lake Road.  They say a northbound vehicle hit three utility poles.  Two are owned by Alger/Delta Power Company and one is believed to be owned by AT&T. 

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Three people were injured in a crash on County Road 550 in Marquette Township Monday.

Sheriff’s deputies say it happened around 1:20 p.m. about a mile south of Middle Island Point Road.

They say a Ford Escape driven by 77-year-old Janice McLean of Marquette was southbound when it crossed the centerline and hit a Chevy Impala driven by 49-year-old Richard Lapine of Marquette.  Grant Newby, 54, of Marquette was a passenger in the vehicle.   

Lapine had to be extricated from the car with the Jaws of Life. 

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI--   A male driver was taken to U.P. Health System Marquette Saturday afternoon after his vehicle hit a guardrail on County Road 550. 

The front passenger side of the pickup caught the guardrail and sent the truck into a ditch. 

Officials believe the driver may have had a medical issue, which caused the crash. 

Powell Township EMS and Fire and State Police from the Negaunee Post assisted at the scene.
