Water enthusiasts urged to be careful at dams, hydroelectric facilities

MARQUETTE, MI--   Upper Peninsula Power Company officials are cautioning people who use hydroelectric facilities for recreation to take care this summer. 

They say such areas need to be treated with respect.  Pay attention to buoys and barriers; sirens, flashing lights, and horns mean imminent danger; and obey any warning signal. 

UPPCO adds heavy rains or sudden storms can make areas immediately above or below dams even more dangerous, and stay back from dry riverbeds below dams.  They can quickly change into rapidly flowing waterways.
