U.S. Army Corps tug boat sinks in St. Marys River

ASSOCIATED PRESS - Authorities say a tug boat owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has sunk while being towed in the upper St. Marys river.
The U.S. Coast Guard says no one was aboard the ‘Hammond Bay,’ which went down in the waterway between the U-P and Canada.
The Coast Guard says it was notified early Monday that the crew of the tug boat ‘Bill Maier,’ which was towing three barges and the Hammond Bay, lost sight of the tug boat. The crew found an oil sheen on the water and a Hammond Bay life ring.
An Army Corps vessel found the Hammond Bay in 37 feet of water. The coast guard says normal river traffic is taking place, except for a safety zone around the sunken tug.
