UPDATE: Fatal crash in Marquette Township

UPDATE, 2/8/17:  The Marquette County Sheriff's Office has released the name of those involved in the accident.  Laurel Jean Eagle, 63, of Sawyer was killed in the accident.  Her husband John Anthony Eagle, 65, was the driver of their vehicle.  Police say the driver of the pickup is identified as Daniel John Rivord, 42, of Ishpeming Township.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Sawyer woman has been killed in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of US-41 and County Road HQ.  The 63-year-old woman was the passenger in a vehicle driven by her 65-year-old husband. He was apparently turning left from the highway into the parking lot when their vehicle was hit by an eastbound truck driven by a 42-year-old Ishpeming Township man. 

The woman was taken to UPHS Marquette and later pronounced dead. Her husband remains hospitalized. The other driver sought his own treatment for injuries.

Deputies are asking those who witnessed the accident to contact them at 225-8434.

Deputies were assisted by Marquette City Police, Michigan State Police, the Marquette Township Fire Department, and Rescue Unit 141.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
