UMERC generators to travel from L'Anse to Negaunee in June

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Starting June 3 drivers can expect delays on US-41 between L’Anse and Negaunee.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says seven large generators will be transported to the new Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation generating facility in Negaunee Township. The generators will block traffic in the late evenings to early mornings, Sunday through Thursday.

The moves from the CertainTeed Plant in L’Anse to Eagle Mills will start at 10 p.m. and finish by 5 a.m. Return trips on alternating night will start at 11 p.m. and finish by 5 a.m.

MDOT says traffic delays will occur as the 400-by-20-foot haul rig will block two lanes as it travels along US-41 at speeds ranging from 5 to 25 miles per hour. Traffic will only be allowed to pass the load in certain areas, as directed by law enforcement.
