Truck hits utility pole in Sands Township

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Officials are investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a power pole in Sands Township.

Monday at 9:25 a.m. Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies, Sands EMS, and Rescue 131 were dispatched to M-553 near station road for an accident. They say Eugene Mahaffey, 33, of Gwinn was northbound in an F-150 pickup truck when he left the eastern side of the road, possibly due to a medical condition. The truck traveled through a stand of trees and hit a power pole.

Mahaffey suffered head injuries and was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.

Upon release from the hospital Mahaffey was arrested on a warrant through the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

UPPCO and the Marquette Board of Light and Power assisted at the scene.
