Troopers gathering food to replenish Copper Country pantries

CALUMET, MI--   State Police from the Calumet Post are teaming up with four area grocery stores this week to Stuff a Blue Goose.

In conjunction with the Michigan Harvest Gathering Campaign, the event aims to raise awareness of hunger and to stock pantry shelves. Troopers will ask residents to purchase “grab bags” pre-filled with non-perishable food and stuff a “Blue Goose” patrol car. The car will then take the donated items to local food pantries.

The events will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Econo Foods in Houghton, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Louie’s Foods in Lake Linden and Saturday at Pat’s Foods in Calumet and L’Anse.

Officials say last year’s efforts collected 5,039 pounds of food.
