Suspect in Iron Mountain robbery back in court

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A Niagara, Wisconsin man accused of robbing a resident in Iron Mountain last year has been re-arraigned in Dickinson County Circuit Court.

Gene Hebert, 36, is charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, and larceny in a building in connection with the August 6 incident.

The appointment of a new defense attorney remanded the case back to district court for a preliminary exam.  Officials say Hebert waived the exam on Friday because a plea agreement is in the works.  He was arraigned in circuit court again Monday.

Hebert’s codefendant—Jacelin Sims—was sentenced in December to at least three years in prison.

Hebert and Mary Hawthorne, 27, were arrested in Pennsylvania on March 8 of this year.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
