Students to compete in CTE challenge at NMU

MARQUETTE, MI--   High schoolers from across the U.P. are converging at Northern Michigan University Friday to demonstrate their construction trades skills.

The day-long 2018 Upper Peninsula CTE Skills Challenge features four competitions centered on career and technical education. They include a construction skills challenge to make a multipurpose structure; a welding skills challenge; an automotive skills competition; and a computer aided drafting skills challenge.

Throughout the day teachers will participate in professional development sessions.

The event is directed by Executive Director of the Upper Peninsula Construction Council Tony Retaskie, trades and business people, NMU personnel, instructors, and students. It begins at 9 a.m. at Northern’s Jacobetti Complex.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
