JACKSON, MI (AP)-- Utility crews are working to restore electrical service to thousands of customers across Michigan after severe storms knocked down trees and power lines.
Detroit-based DTE Energy Co. says about 31,000 DTE Energy Co. customers were without power on Tuesday morning. The Consumers Energy unit of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp.'s Consumers Energy says about 11,000 of its customers were without service.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports East D Avenue in Kalamazoo County was shut down due to downed power lines.
Meanwhile, the Michigan Department of Transportation reports numerous power outages at intersections along state highway 53 in Lapeer County. MDOT is asking drivers to proceed with caution and treat those intersections as four-way stops until power returns.
