GLADSTONE, MI-- Michigan’s forest products industry contributes $20 billion a year to the state’s economy—two years earlier than expected.
Governor Rick Snyder made that announcement during a stop at the Besse Forest Products Group facility in Gladstone Wednesday. Snyder said the state set the $20 billion goal with the hopes of achieving it by 2018. He said Michigan’s forests are an integral part of Michigan’s reinvention and continue to drive growth for rural economies.
The Governor continued his tour of the Upper Peninsula Wednesday with a kayaking adventure at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
On Thursday he’s expected to make a stop at Bay College and the Upper Peninsula State Fair, accompanied by Representative Ed McBroom, Senator Tom Casperson, state Department of Talent and Economic Development Director Steve Arwood, and DNR Director Keith Creagh.
