State appropriation to MTU rises 2 percent

HOUGHTON, MI--   A 2 percent increase for higher education in the state’s new budget means an additional $960,700 dollars for Michigan Tech.

That accounts for 20 percent of the university’s more than $205 million operating budget. Tuition for the 2017-18 academic year will average $14,774 for Michigan residents, which keeps Tech under the Michigan tuition increase cap of 3.8 percent.

Officials say MTU has never exceeded the state-set tuition cap since it was established in 2011.
