Soo official leaves office over child porn charges

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--   The city commissioner of Sault Ste. Marie has resigned amid a child pornography investigation.

Jeffery Stefanski announced his resignation at a meeting Monday night. WPBN-TV reports the commission now has 30 days to decide if a special election will be held to fill the position, or if a replacement will be appointed to fill the vacancy until a scheduled election.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department launched an investigation in December after deputies received a tip from a boy who said he had seen Stefanski looking at pornography.

Investigators say they found numerous photos and videos of underage boys on Stefanski's computer.

He's been charged with five counts of felony child pornography and one count of contributing to a minor.
