Snowmobiler injured in Houghton County accident

SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP, MI--   Another Minnesota man has been injured in a U.P. snowmobile accident.

Troopers from the Calumet Post say it happened Friday at 2:37a.m. about a mile south of Gas Plant Road in Houghton County’s Schoolcraft Township.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 49-year-old male driver from Andover, Minnesota failed to negotiate a turn on Trail #3.  The machine went off the trail and struck some trees.

The man was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment.  Once in stable condition, the victim was airlifted to a trauma center in Minnesota.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
