Semi pulls down telephone, power lines in Negaunee Township

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Electricity was knocked out to some residents Thursday, after a semi snapped a power pole in Negaunee Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on US-41, about a half-mile west of Northwoods Road. They say Pierre Crawford, 38, of Illinois went the wrong way on 41. He had just turned his semi around and reentered the highway when a low-lying telephone line caught the front edge of his enclosed semi trailer box. The tension snapped a power pole, and the truck dragged the phone and power lines across the highway.

Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane were blocked for a short time until the Marquette Board of Light and Power arrived and freed the truck.

No injuries were reported.
