Portage Township stabbing suspect arraigned

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Lake Linden woman has been arraigned on charges connected to a stabbing earlier this week in Houghton County. 

Melanie Niemi, 25, is charged with one count of domestic violence.

The incident happened Tuesday around 6:40 a.m. in Portage Township. The 32-year-old male victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 23 in Houghton County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
