LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan officials are looking for volunteer instructors for a new off-road vehicle safety education program.
The Department of Natural Resources initiative is designed to have experienced riders teach newcomers about safe and responsible ORV use. Instructors are required to attend a three-day academy to learn policy and procedure, classroom management, and teaching concepts. They work with off-highway motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, utility-type vehicles, and winching recovery equipment.
This year's academies are scheduled for May 29-31 and June 5-7. Each class is limited to 24 students, who must be age 18 or older. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
They are held at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center in Roscommon County.
