Ontonagon County snowmobile crashes injure two

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI--   Two people have been injured in snowmobile accidents in Ontonagon County.

The Sheriff’s Office says the first happened Tuesday around 11:15 a.m. on Trail #13 near Kangas Road in Greenland Township. Randy Thayer of Lansing left the trail to climb a hill when he turned to the right and lost control of the snowmobile. It rolled over and ejected Thayer.

The second accident happened the same day around 5:30 p.m. Officials say Phillip Yerty of Imlay City was operating on Trail #12 near Stimac Road in Ontonagon Township. His sled left the trail and struck a series of small trees. Yerty was thrown from the snowmobile.

Both men were taken to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
