ONTONAGON COUNTY ANIMAL PROTECTION MILLAGE RENEWAL

 

 

Shall Ontonagon County renew a tax to help with operating expenses for maintaining an Animal Shelter in the amount of 0.15 mills (15 cents per $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of four (4) years.  This millage shall begin in 2017 and continue through 2020 on the taxable value of all taxable property in Ontonagon County, State of Michigan, as provided by Article IX, Section 6, of the Michigan Constitution.  The funds received shall be used for general operating expenses of the animal shelter operated by Ontonagon County Animal Protection (OCAP) and located at 19504 M-38 in Ontonagon.  This millage is estimated to raise $38,400 in the first year.

Shall Ontonagon Area School District, Ontonagon County, Michigan, borrow the sum of not to exceed Three Hundred Thirty Thousand Dollars ($330,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefore for the purpose of purchasing school buses?

The following is for informational purposes only:

The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2017, is .07 mill ($0.07 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation).  The maximum number of years the bonds may be outstanding, exclusive of any refunding, is seven (7) years.  The estimated simple average annual millage anticipated to be required to retire this bond debt is .40 mill ($0.40 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation).

Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in Ontonagon Area School District, Ontonagon County, Michigan, be increased by and the board of education be authorized to levy not to exceed 1.5 mills ($1.50 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 10 years, 2017 to 2026, inclusive, to create a sinking fund for the purchase of real estate for sites for, and the construction and repair of, school buildings and all other purposes authorized by law; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and 1.5 mills are levied in 2017 is approximately $223,530?

Shall the Township of Bergland, County of Ontonagon, MI levy a millage of one (1.0) mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of four (4) years being the tax years of 2017-2020, inclusive with said funds one half (.50) mill for general township maintenance and repairs, one quarter (.25) mill to be used for fire department operations, and one quarter (.25) mill to be used for cemetery upkeep and maintenance.  It is estimated that one (1.0) mill would generate $31,663.22 the first year when levied in 2017 which would provide $15,830.08 to township maintenance, $7,915.54 for fire department operations $7,915.54 to cemetery maintenance.
