New boat launch in Marquette County

ISHPEMING, MI--   The City of Ishpeming has a new boating site on Lake Angeline.

The Department of Natural Resources says the 120-foot-long launch ramp and 30-foot-long skid pier opened Friday.  The 1.4-acre site off lower Pine Street also includes a vault toilet and parking for 15 vehicles.

Money for the $90,000 project came from a damage settlement from Upper Peninsula Power Company related to a fuse plug failure at the Silver Lake Dam in 2003.

DNR officials hope to get additional money to pave the road leading down to the boat launch.

DNR fisheries biologists are cultivating a two-tiered fishing system at Lake Angeline.  Lake trout will use the colder, deeper parts of the roughly 160-foot-deep former mine pit, and bass will use the warmer, upper portion.
