Negaunee Post collects several pounds of unwanted drugs

NEGAUNEE, MI--   Michigan State Police at the Negaunee Post collected 40 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs during National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday.

Troopers partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible venue for the disposal of old and unused prescription drugs.  All 30 MSP posts in the state participated in the one-day effort, collecting a total of 841.8 pounds of drugs.

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from home medicine cabinets.  Residents are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—pose potential safety and health hazards.

Anyone who wasn’t able to participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day can dispose of their unwanted and unused drugs at any MSP post, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.  The service is free and anonymous.
