HOUGHTON, MI--   A Houghton County man charged with beating his Iranian wife to death has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

A jury spent about 3-and-a-half hours deliberating Wednesday, the third day of trial for Nima Nassiri, 35.

Police say Nassiri repeatedly pounded 27-year-old Sanaz Nesami’s head into the floor in their Dollar Bay home last December.  She later died at Marquette General Hospital of bleeding in her brain.

Nassiri said he didn’t intend to kill her.

Nesami’s heart, lungs, and other organs are credited with saving the lives of seven people.  She’s buried in Park Cemetery in Marquette, according to her family’s wishes.

Nassiri faces up to life in prison.  A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
