Name of suspect in WI shooting/chase released

MARINETTE COUNTY, WI--   Authorities have released the name of a Wisconsin man who took his own life after he shot at police while being chased last week.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Department says the suspect is identified as Robb DeGroot, 43, of Green Bay.

Last Thursday afternoon deputies pursued DeGroot after he reportedly shot at a vehicle on US-141 south of Wausaukee.  Police lost sight of DeGroot’s Chevy Tahoe in the town of Goodman, but later found it on a two-rut road.  They also found DeGroot, face-down on the ground outside the car, dead of a gunshot wound to the head.

An autopsy has confirmed the cause of death.  The results of toxicology tests have not yet been received.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
