ESCANABA, MI-- Delta County judge Glenn Pearson has not yet made a decision whether an Escanaba man will be bound over to circuit court on a murder charge.
Kallay Batchelor, 36, is accused of stabbing his wife Heather in the throat with a kitchen knife on September 3.
On Friday police testified Batchelor told them he and his wife had gotten into a fight early that morning. Batchelor said Heather pushed him, he pushed back, and she slapped him. When Batchelor went to leave, he claims his wife grabbed him with a knife in her hand. He said a struggle ensued and she was stabbed.
Police say Heather Batchelor was found on her bedroom floor with the knife blade in her neck and its broken handle in her hand.
Judge Pearson adjourned the preliminary exam, saying he needed to read the autopsy report. The exam could either be continued or Batchelor could be bound over to circuit court.
