TRAVERSE CITY, MI-- Matt Morgan will be on the November ballot.
The Traverse City Democrat is campaigning against Republican Jack Bergman for Michigan’s 1st Congressional District. A technicality with nominating petitions disqualified him from the primary ballot, so Morgan mounted a write-in campaign. In order to be placed on the November ballot Morgan needed to pull 5 percent of the cumulative votes cast for governor in the 1st District, which amounted to roughly 3,570. In Marquette County alone, Morgan received 4,388 certified votes.
Morgan’s office says while full official certifications will take several weeks, preliminary numbers indicate there were more than 32,000 write-in votes cast for Congress on the Democratic ticket. Morgan was the only declared candidate for the party.
