More meth labs found in Eastern U.P.

DAFTER, MI--   The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force has made another drug bust in Chippewa County.

Detectives say they made several controlled purchases of ecstasy from suspects in Dafter, and after a lengthy investigation executed a search warrant Monday on 10 Mile Road.  They found an active meth lab, meth components and waste, and other evidence.  Another warrant was executed at a neighboring building.  Officers say someone broke into an abandoned church and started a meth lab inside.

Three suspects—all from Dafter—were arrested.  Rodger Jewell, Suzanne Jewell, and Cody Power are charged on several counts, including conspiracy to operate a meth lab in the presence of a minor, near specified places, and involving hazardous waste.  Power is also charged with three counts of delivery of ecstasy.

Tri-DENT says more arrests are likely.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
