Missing boater found in Little Bay de Noc

ESCANABA, MI--   The body of a boater missing since Saturday in Little Bay de Noc has been found.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office says Thursday around 12:15 p.m. the body of Tom Petruszak was recovered from the surface of the water.  He had jumped into the bay to save a friend who had lost his balance and fallen off the boat.  Neither was wearing a life preserver. The friend was rescued.

Searches were conducted over the next few days by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, Michigan State Police Marine Services, the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, and Delta County Search and Rescue.

Officials say the investigation is complete and no foul play is suspected.

Deputies were assisted Thursday by the Michigan State Police Manistique Post, the MSP Cadaver Detection Canine out of Lansing, and a drone from Delta Force PI.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
