MI unemployment down again

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The state says Michigan's unemployment rate dipped slightly in April as the number of people working rose while the number of jobless people fell.

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget said Wednesday that the state's seasonally adjusted jobless rate last month of 8.4 percent was a tenth of a percentage point lower than March. It was seven-tenths of a percentage point below the level of 9.1 percent in April 2012.

Nationally, the unemployment rate was 7.5 percent last month.

The state says the number of Michigan residents unemployed and seeking work fell 5,000 during the month. It says the number of people working rose 19,000.

Job gains were made in manufacturing and leisure and hospitality services, while construction jobs declined.
