MCSO Sergeant wins national honor

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputy has been named National Correctional Supervisor of the Year by the American Jail Association for 2015.

Sergeant James Herrington has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2005.  He won despite stiff competition from around the country.

MCSO Captain Gregg Gustafson says, “Jim epitomizes the character and integrity necessary to succeed in a career in corrections.  Jim is well-deserving of this award and we are all very proud of him. A national award is a first for us and is quite an honor for Jim.”

Herrington received his award during the National American Jail Association conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 28.

As part of the award a donation from the AJA was made in Herrington’s name to the Pigs ‘n’ Heat Fire Relief Fund.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
