Marquette man arrested for hit and run

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette man is jailed for hitting a car while driving under the influence.

City Police were dispatched Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. to the 100 block of West Michigan Street on a report that a motorist had struck a parked vehicle. When officers arrived the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and drove through East Marquette. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle, which went through a yard and struck a trailer on the roadside before coming to a stop.

The driver—identified as 19-year-old John Dartt—was arrested for hit and run, fleeing and eluding police, and operating under the influence.

He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail pending charges from the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
