MARQUETTE, MI-- The Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency has received a grant for the "Get Ready, Get Reading" AmeriCorps program. Marquette mayor John Kivela announced the grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service on Friday.
The $149,857 grant will go to support twelve AmeriCorps members who will provide focused one-on-one or small group tutoring targeting reading needs by grade level. In addition, trained volunteers will help locate, prepare, and conduct supplemental literary support activities to enhance the program. The goal is to improve literacy sufficiently to put students on track for success in college and beyond.
AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to meet critical needs.
