MUNISING, MI-- The kitchen of the Alger Correctional Facility in Munising was shut down Wednesday, after maggots were found in some food.
Officials say the maggots were found while turkey was being sliced in the preparation room for last night’s meals. The meat slicer was disinfected, the kitchen bleached, and the inmates given bag lunches and dinners.
Alger Max—and all of the state’s prisons—contracts with Aramark for its food services. It’s the second time maggots have been found in the Munising prison’s food area.
The prison kitchen reopened Thursday morning.
