LSCP partners with Baraga County EDC

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Lake Superior Community Partnership in Marquette is collaborating with the Baraga County Economic Development Corporation to provide development help.

Mark Massicotte is Board Chair of the Baraga County EDC. He says the region needs to build from the ground up, and needs to work with a mentor that knows the terrain.

“Where we are today, they’ve been,” he says. “And they’re able to bring people that are trained and skilled to the table to give us insight that, actually, they never had when they started. So we’ve got a mentor that’s very skilled and has a structure about them that can help us really define our path forward.”

According to the LCSP, Baraga County wants to develop a sustainable approach to economic development; balance community, environment, business, and pleasure;  become a community of choice; and build the wealth of the community to insure sustainability for generations to come. Massicotte says the county wants to define the community by the year 2020.

He says EDCs in the U.P. need to collaborate because there aren’t enough resources to go around.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
