Lower Peninsula struggles with power outages

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   Utilities say about 275,000 homes and businesses across Michigan are without power following several days of thunderstorms and hot weather. In all, 405,000 customers have lost service at one point or another.

DTE Energy Co. says about 195,000 of its customers were without power Thursday afternoon after a new round of damaging thunderstorms made its way across the state, knocking down trees and power lines. Since Tuesday, DTE says about 325,000 of its customers have been affected.

CMS Energy Corp. says about 97,000 of its customers lost power, including about 36,500 in the Flint area. That number was down to 80,000 Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service reports wind gusts above 60 mph in some places.
