Kuopus to be sentenced next month

HOUGHTON, MI--   Sentencing is set for a man who led Houghton Police on a high-speed chase in April. 

Travis Kuopus, 27, pleaded guilty Wednesday to fleeing and eluding a police officer and attempted stalking.  In return, charges of aggravated stalking and two counts of resisting and obstructing an officer were dropped.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 27. 

Kuopus remains lodged in the Houghton County Jail. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
