Invasive species 'blitz' to be held in Negaunee Township

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   UPPCO and the Central Upper Peninsula Cooperative Weed Management Area are teaming up Friday to teach the public about combating invasive aquatic species.

Landing Blitz 2017 is being held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dead River Basin East End Boat Launch in Negaunee Township. During the event information will be presented on what boaters, anglers and recreational enthusiasts can do to slow the spread of invasive plants and animals such as Eurasian watermilfoil and zebra mussels. Aquatic invasive species crowd out native species, disrupt lake ecosystems, and interfere with boating, fishing, and other types of recreation.

The blitz is one of several being held at boat landings across the state as part of Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Week.
