SCHOOL DISTRICT BONDING PROPOSAL

 

 

Shall Chassell Township Schools, Houghton County, Michigan, borrow the sum of not to exceed Five Hundred Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars ($575,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefor for the purpose of:

remodeling and equipping and re-equipping the school building, in part for security purposes; erecting, furnishing and equipping an addition to the school building; erecting a storage building; and preparing, developing and improving the site, in part for a new driving lane and driveway?

The following is for informational purposes only:

The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2017, is 1.87 mills ($1.87 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a 0 mill net increase over the prior year's levy.  The maximum number of years the bonds may be outstanding, exclusive of any refunding, is six (6) years.  The estimated simple average annual millage anticipated to be required to retire this bond debt is 2.10 mills ($2.10 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation).

CHASSELL TOWNSHIP ROAD IMPROVEMENT MILLAGE

 

 

Shall the limitation on the total amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in the Township of Chassell be increased to 2 mills ($2.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), which will result in tax revenue collections to be $114,972.50 in the first year for a period of four (4) years, being 2017 through 2020; said revenues to be used exclusively for road improvement within Chassell Township?  This being a RENEWAL OF TWO (2) MILLS, as adjusted as required by law, which expires with the 2016 levy.

FIRE PROTECTION MILLAGE

 

Shall Chassell Township renew the previously authorized millage of 1 mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value) in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution and levy it for four (4) years, 2017 through 2020 inclusive, for the purpose of providing additional revenue for fire protection and prevention, including construction, maintenance, repairs, equipment and supplies purchases, and other costs associated with operation of the Fire Department and First Responders, which will raise an estimated $57,486.25 in the first year the millage is levied, of which a portion shall be dispersed to the Chassell Volunteer Fire Department and Chassell First Responders as the Township Board determines appropriate?

WITHDRAWAL OF TOWNSHIP FROM PORTAGE LAKE DISTRICT LIBRARY

 

 

Shall Chassell Township, County of Houghton, State of Michigan, withdraw from membership in the Portage Lake District Library?  If approved by a majority of electors, this withdrawal would take effect when the current seven (7) year term of participation expires on December 31, 2017.  If the Township withdraws, the current 2 mil tax levy, as reduced to 1.9727 as a result of Headlee would no longer be collected after December 31, 2017, and residents of Chassell Township would be required to purchase a library card to access library services.
