Hospital donates drug disposal machines to Iron County law enforcement

IRON RIVER, MI--   Aspirus Iron River Hospital & Clinics has provided a grant for two drug disposal receptacles in the community.

The MedSafe containers are now in the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and Iron River Police Department.  They’ll be used to dispose of all unused medications except for inhalers, sharps, and glass containers.  The contents will be disposed of through incineration, which is the Drug Enforcement Administration’s preferred method of destroying drugs.

The grant from Aspirus covers the two machines plus continued disposal costs.  The receptacles are generally emptied on a bi-monthly basis.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
