Hanes given Officer of the Year award

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette City Police officer Mark Hanes has been named Marquette County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

Hanes was one of five nominees for the award. He’s spent 26 years in law enforcement—20 of them with the City Police. Officials say Hanes distinguished himself through his 15 years of work with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team.

Hanes received his award at a meeting of the Marquette County Law Enforcement Administration Wednesday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
