Gladstone recall petition denied

ESCANABA, MI--   The Delta County Election Commission has denied the wording of a petition to recall three Gladstone officials.

Resident Timothy DeClaire initiated the petition, which is aimed at Mayor Joseph Maki, Mayor Pro Tem Hugo Mattonen, and Commissioner David Nemacheck.  DeClaire says the officials should not have levied an additional 1.8 mills to the Gladstone City millage without holding a public hearing.

The Election Commission denied the petition for lack of clarity.  It was concerned the petition wording suggested Gladstone officials broke the law—which they didn’t.

DeClaire says he will re-word and re-submit the petition.
