Gas prices up a nickel

DEARBORN, MI (AP)--   AAA Michigan reports statewide gas prices have increased by about 5 cents a gallon within the past week.

The auto club says the average price per gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $2.29 on Sunday. That's about $1.07 less than it was a year ago.

It marks the third consecutive week the statewide average has risen above $2 a gallon.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys daily fuel costs at 2,800 Michigan gas stations. It says the cheapest price was about $2.22 a gallon in the Flint area, while the highest price was about $2.36 a gallon in the Traverse City area.
According to the most recent AAA report, Michigan ranked third in the nation for states with the largest increases in gas prices in the past two weeks.
