Former Escanaba official in circuit court Monday

ESCANABA, MI--   A former city councilman and mayor of Escanaba will be arraigned in circuit court on embezzlement charges Monday. 

Leo Evans, 58, of Escanaba was arrested June 16 following a three-month investigation into the misuse of funds from the Escanaba Eagles Club from 2011 to 2014.  He resigned from the city council in April.

Evans is charged with embezzlement of $100,000 or more, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
