Finnish official to speak at Finlandia graduation

HANCOCK, MI--   The Consul General of Finland to New York is giving the keynote address at Finlandia University’s spring commencement.

Manu Virtamo will speak at the April 30 ceremony, which is also celebrating Finland’s centennial anniversary of independence.

Virtamo has been with the Foreign Service of Finland for the past 36 years, spending time in Washington D.C., Japan, and Los Angeles. He also worked as International Secretary for the Student Union of Helsinki University and the Center Party of Finland.

Virtamo’s trip to Hancock will be his first time visiting the U.P.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
