Explosion, fire at Marquette Border Grill

MARQUETTE, MI--   A small explosion caused a fire at the Third Street Border Grill restaurant in Marquette Saturday.

The City Fire Department was notified around 4 p.m. The building was being evacuated when they arrived.

Border Grill staff said the explosion happened in the back kitchen area on top of a stove. The building’s sprinkler system and the stove’s fire suppression system quickly extinguished the flames.

Fire crews assisted the staff in removing water from the building to keep damage to a minimum.

Two minor injuries were reported.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
