LANSING, MI-- The Midcontinent Independent System Operator has begun a study related to electric reliability in Northern Michigan.
The state asked MISO to study the benefits of electric
transmission and expansion in its northern region to see if there’s an opportunity to lower costs while increasing future reliability. That includes looking at the possibility of connecting the Eastern U.P. with Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and the Northern Lower Peninsula at the Straits of Mackinac to a transmission line near Gaylord.
Governor Rick Snyder also asked for MISO’s study to assume a large natural gas plant is constructed in Otsego or Kalkaska County.
