Driver in Sands Township crash ticketed for careless driving

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gwinn man was injured in a single-vehicle accident in Sands Township Saturday night. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just after 10 p.m. on M-553 near Glasses Curve. The 21-year-old driver was southbound in a Ford Explorer when he lost control of the vehicle. It left the roadway, went over an embankment, drove into a ravine, and came to rest in a forested area.

The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.

He was issued a citation for careless driving.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
