Driver in Negaunee Township crash avoids electrocution

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Negaunee driver was trapped by power lines when his vehicle hit a utility pole in Negaunee Township Wednesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened around 2:40 p.m. on North Road near Mattson Road.  They say 65-year-old John Argall was northbound when he became drowsy.  The vehicle crossed the southbound lane, went into the ditch, and hit a utility pole.  The pole snapped in half, causing the power lines to detach and drape across the vehicle.

Argall stayed in the vehicle until first responders and the Board of Light and Power deactivated the power lines.  He was taken to Bell Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.  North Road was closed for about two hours.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
