Downtown Marquette getting smart parking meters

abc10up.com

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is revamping downtown parking meters.

Beginning next week the DDA will replace the circa-1950 meters throughout the district with smart meters.  The new meters will accept coins and credit cards for the 50-cents-an-hour fee. Officials say the meters are designed to be intuitive and will guide the user through the transaction.

The lower level of the Bluff Street parking ramp is also getting a parking meter.  A pay-by-plate station has been installed in the center of the south wall.  Additional pay stations will eventually be installed in the lower level of the parking ramp and the North Main Street parking lot.

Officials say meter revenue will be used for snow removal and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, walkways, and parking lots in the downtown area.
