DNR closes portion of Marquette County snowmobile trail

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources is shutting down part of the main east-west snowmobile connector route in the U.P. for repairs.

Officials say a bridge along Trail #8 in Marquette County is closed. A major support beam on the underside of the bridge is cracked and needs to be replaced. That means the section of trail between Champion and the Baraga Plains is closed to through traffic.

The DNR and Moose Country Snowmobile Club are working on the repairs.

The DNR plans to reopen the bridge in mid-January.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
